Have you hugged your kid today!

I remember while growing up seeing these bumper stickers that read "Have you hugged your kid today".  People all over had this sticker plastered on their chrome bumpers.  It was a time that awareness to your children and the love you had for them should be shown.  That is when the tide began to change, does anybody else remember that era.

We were at Six Flags Great America when I saw and experienced this bumper sticker for the first time.  My mom and us girls along with a friend of ours and her 3 girls went there to  have a fun day. Pat the mom of these 3 girls all of a sudden said "Have you hugged your kid today?" she started hugging all her girls.  I didn't quit get what she was doing until I saw the bumper sticker and thought "OH" i see now.  I will never forget that day.  I thought that was so precious.

Years later Pat died in a motorcycle accident.  I thought to myself, her kids knew she loved them.  Do your kids know you love them.  Have you hugged your kids today!

  1. This is why I tell my children every single morning before they walk into school and every single night before they go to bed that I love them....even if I am mad at them. Life is so short and I think sometimes parents think their children will automatically know just how much they are loved. I never want my children to assume or wonder. If for some reason they never see me again, I want them to know just how much I love them. Your post was great!!! It really touched me as a mom!!

  2. Wow. That is an amazing story. Life is short and we have to enjoy it as much as possible. Even though I am not a mom yet I would like to keep in mind to always hug and love my children.

  3. I'm not a parent, yet. But maybe in about 10 years or so I will be. And when I do become a father I am going to treat them with so much care and love! I am pretty excited to be a father, but only when I am financially ready.

  4. Showing your kids you love them is very important for them. One of the reasons kids that grow up anti social or worse, can be traced back to the lack of parental love. Caring for kids is a full time job, but there are memories born everyday. I don't have kids but I have one nephew and two nieces and I consider them my kids. Kids need to know they are loved.

  5. This post makes me realize that we shouldn't sweat the small stuff in life. The little things in life that bother us are not worth fighting over with anyone. I wish I could take back some of the things I were upset over these past years.
